INVESTMENT STOCKS DOMINION ISSUES FIRM CONVERSION PROSPECTS (Received February 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 3 On the London Stock Exchange giltedged stocks have developed strength owing to favourable revenue returns, and as there is still much money e<>eking investment in them their firmness seems likely to be maintained. Prices of Dominion stocks generally are well maintained fend a good result iti anticipated for the next Australian canversion loan, which cannot be far distant. The Financial News suggests that Australia might proceed at once to convert her loans redeemable 1935-45. When these are out of the way there -prill bo a gap of five years before any more conversions can be carried out. Australia, therefore, might as well feel that if she could make certain of converting the £62,422,000 worth of 193545 issues she could look ahead for five clear years. She would have to offer some small inducement to holders to accept conversion now and would, of course, have to pay in full the present interest to date when the loan becomes callable. EAST AFRICAN COFFEE EARLY STRIPPING OF TREES East African Coffee Plantations. Limited, Melbourne, has notified the Auckland Stock Exchange that a cablegram from the plantations advises that ciry weather at Savani estate is turning the balance of the crop. Asi a result the last, estimate of 400 tons for the current year's crop from all estates is reduced to between 335 and 345 tons. The company's A grade coffee realised £l3O a ton at the last sales.
