AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS 7 EVENTS HELD ON SATURDAY SAVIDAN DEFEATED* IN MILE , TECHNICAL LEADING CLUB /Favoured with a good track, althougl somewhat hampered by a fresh cross wind, record fields of athletes providec a day of racing at the Domain 01 Saturday afternoon, when tho annua Auckland provincial championships wen decided. No records were broken during the afternoon, but the general standarc was very high., r A./R. Wilson, of Whangarei, provec himself a high-class miler in defeating J. W. Savidan and J. Yalder in tliii event, and his future contests witl these two runners and Cooper, who wa: not' competing on Saturday, will b< awaited with more than usual interesl Savidan later won the three miles' witl the greatest of ease. F. A. Finlayson gave a great displaj of hurdling to win two titles, and ho ii regarded as a real find. His 25 34 seconds for the 220 yards hurdles places him in the very best national class. H; Brainsby regained his jumping titles with brilliant efforts, his 22ft. l|in. in the long jump being outstanding. •'•■ Hi also did well in the hop, step and jump, / R. Cameron retained his walking titles comfortably. V. Walker easily disposed of the field in the 100 yards, but in the 220 yards W. S. Bainbridge beat him by a fraction in a thrilling finish.'Bainbridge won the 440 yards easily while E. G. Kedgeley finished strongly to beat a fine field in the halfmile championship, which provided a great sight as the sixteen starters raced at a fast clip in the first lap. F. E. Watt received a great ovation for his wonderful effort in the junior half-mile, which was one of the outstanding performances of the day. Thirteen clubs were represented- at the meeting, and Technical retained the club championship with 72 points, being followed by Auckland Club with 35 and University with 31.
