ELOPEMENT WITH RIVAL
POLITICAL ROMANCE STORY OF SPANISH ELECTIONS It was as the sequel to a romance born amid the heat of the Spanish general election that Senorita Ines Ramona, the brilliant young Spanish suffragette, and Senor Carlos Yuelva, one of the defeated champions of Socialism, lately arrived in France to qualify, for marriage on French soil. Senor Yuelva attributes his defeat at the elections to the eloquence and hard work of the woman who is shortly to be his wife. Their story is a remarkable one. When the campaign opened in the historic province of Granada, Senorita Ramona came on the scene to help the " Right " candidate, Senor Alcazar, who happened to be her fiance. Her eloquence made such an impression that it was impossible to provide hall accommodation for all who wanted to hear her speak. On the suggestion of her fiance. Senorita Ramona attended a meeting of his opponents with the idea of taking up the points of his speech and replying to them in detail the next night. The speech of the Socialist, however, made such an impression on the visitor that she lost her enthusiasm for her own cause, and on the evo of the election, when it was too late to undo the work she had put in' for her fiance, she realised that it was his rival whom she loved. There was a meeting between the two, and < Senorita Ramona learned that unknown to her the man whose defeat she had made certain had been a secret admirer of her since she first entered into the political arena, and attended her meetings whenever he could. At the moment when the frantic crowds were cheering the triumph of Senor Alcazar and shouting for the woman who had made his success such a sweeping on'e, the couple stole quietly away from the town hall to the railway station and took the night train for France. As soon as they were married Senorita Ramona said she intended to return to Granada to prepare for the next election, when she will come out on the side of her Socialist husband.
