IDEAS ABOUT PRESSING

Time is often lost when ironing because the ironing blanket slips and puckers. This fault can be eliminated by taeking to.the under-side of the ironing .board or table with stout draw ing pins. These will not damage the blanket if they are carefully eased through the material instead of being "jabbed" through. How many women have carefully pressed their husband's tennis trousers, only to hear the complaint that the crease down the front of each leg is lost immediately the trousers are worn? This fault can be eliminated by rubbing a . piece of common soap insjde the trousers along the line where the crease is to be shown. Press in the usual way. This'is an excellent hint for pressing trousers of all kinds. Linen goods that require a high gloss should be ironed on an uncovered polishing board. Damp evenly, have a hot iron, press heavily and quickly, iron only' in the one direction. The exception to "this method is in the case of lace-edged centres and d'oyleys, which should be ironed from the centre outwards'. Do not attempt heavy pressing on rayon fabrics. The correct treatment is to press lightly on the "wrong" side with a moderately hot iron—never with a really hot one. .
