ROBBERY CHARGE
ALLEGEDLY ARMED MAN COMMITTAL FOR TRIAL [iJY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday A charge that on Juno 1, when armed with a pea-rifle, ho robbed Charles Joseph Williams, agent, of £l4, was preferred against Leslie Clifton Arthur Payno in the Palmorston North Polico Court to-day. Accused pleaded not guilty. Williams said that when he returned homo Into at night and put his car in a shed a man camo toward him and ordered him to hand over his money, pointing something which witness said was not a revolver, bub a longbarrelled weapon. Witness handed tho man £l4. Tho night was dark and ho could not distinguish tho man, who was about tho same build as accused. A restaurant keeper said accused, who previously had no money, camo for a meal at !).30 p.m. on Juno 1. Tho man said bo had no money, bub would not bo long in getting some. Later tho sama night accused, had more to eat and paid for tho food with a pound note, which ho took from several others, which looked to amount to £lO. Accused was committed for trial at tho Supreme Court.
