HELD UP WITH WEAPON
AGENT HANDS OVER £l4 ACCUSED SENT FOR TRIAL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday Loslie Clifton Arthur Payne was charged in tho Police Court to-day that ou Juno 1, with a pea-rifle, ho robbed Charles Joseph Williams, agent, of £l4. Williams said when ho returned home late at night and put tho car in tho shed a man camo toward him and ordered him to hand over his money, pointing something which witness said was not a revolver, but a long-barrelled weapon. Witness handed over £l4. It was dark and he could not distinguish the man, who was about the same build as accused. A restaurant-keeper said accused, who previously had no money, came for a meal at 9.30 p.m. on Juno 1, saying ho had no money then, but would not bo long in getting some. Later tho same night accused had more to eat and paid with a pound note, which ho took from several others, which looked to amount to about £lO. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was committed for trial to the Supreme Court.
