FRENCH QUOTAS
LIST OF REVISIONS BRITISH FEARS CONFIRMED British Wireless RUGBY, Jan. 23 The revised quotas on British imports into France, recently communicated by the French Government to the British Ambassador in Paris, Lord Tyrrell, have been made public. The fears that the revision of quotas-would fail to meet the British demand for full restoration of the recent cuts have been confirmed. Restoration of the full amount is made in 83 out of 236 categories. On articles in 33 cases, only a 75 per cent restoration of the 1932 figures has been made.
In regard to cotton, only two categories, bleached and unbleached goods, have been restored to the 100 per cent quota. In other cases there is restoration up to 25 per cent of the 1932 figures. The full effect of the new list of quotas cannot be determined until careful comparison has been made with the list of articles which already are subject to restrictions. The board of directors of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce has expressed alarm at the action of the French Government in excluding certain cotton goods in the restored list of quotas, and urges the British Government to refuse to accept the present position.
