AIR RACE TO AUSTRALIA
AMERICANS INTERESTED
TURNER MAY COMPETE QUESTION OF FINANCE CLYDE PANGBORN'S PLANS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 24, 8.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 23 Mr. Boseoc Turner, a well-known airman, says be intends to enter for the London-Melbourne air race if he can obtain proper financial backing. He will not determine the typo of aeroplane he may use, or other details, until he definitely decides to compete. Mr. Clyde Pang-Born, transpacific flier, says he is fairly certain to enter for the race. He will make a definite decision after testing his new monoplane called the Flying' Wing. This machine was designed by Mr. Clair Vance, a noted speed pilot. It is estimated to have a cruising speed of about 200 miles an hour and a cruising radius of 2000 miles.
" My tentative plans call for a copilot," said Mr. Pangborn. " We would fly night and day, stopping only for fuel. I estimate that we could complete the trip within 50 hours." Mr. James Haizlip, who is in Florida, says he has made no definite plans yet, but expects to decide within a month whether or not he will compote in the race.
