SUNKEN OBJECT STRUCK
WAIMEA OFF EAST CAPE NO REPORT OF DAMAGE The Union Company's steamer Waimea struck a submerged object three miles north of the East Cape, according to a wireless message received by the Marine Department from Captain A. F. Inman, the master of the vessel, last evening. The message did not state whether any damage had been done to the vessel. The Waimea is a steel twin-screw steamer of 454 tons, and she was built at Glasgow in 1909. The vessel is continually engaged in the Auckland-Gis-borne-Napier cargo service, and she left Auckland for Gisborne on Tuesday evening.
