AMAZING SPEED
AMERICAN'S AEROPLANE CLAIMS OF THE DESIGNER WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 Mr. John Stack, an aeronautical engineer, announces that he has designed an aeroplane capable of attaining a speed of 544 miles an hour, " almost the speed of sound " and 121 jniles an hour more than tho world's record. Ho uses the present type of high-powered engine. The designer said that wind resistance was reduced to the minimum. '1 he landing gear was completely retractable, or could be removed and a catapult device served to get the machine aloft. The fuselage is shaped -for landing preferably on water.
