OPEN REGATTA THIS YEAR NORTHCOTE AND BIRKENHEAD A change to the open regatta- i 3 to be made this year for the annual Northcote and Birkenhead fixture. The policy adopted for two years past in restricting'events to local boats is to bo discontinued, and the regatta will be conducted on lines similar to that held in 1031. On that occasion 110 ■"bouts competed, whereas only SO participated in the nest year, under the local scheme. ■ s > ' v Arrangements for this qeason'e regatta : are to be initiated in the coming week, when officiab will be eleoted at a combined meeting of Northcote and Birkenhead residents. Stepß are proposed to make available the surplus funds from former regattas, now held by trustees, as a guarantee.against loss in any year. This would ensure the open regatta being revived with the fullest confidence, notwithstanding the possibility of somewhat more limited financial support in view of the depression. • ; - CORNWELL CUP CONTESTS 1 [BY CORRESPONDENT]' WHANGARFI\ Friday •The 1 crew selected by the Whangarei Cruising Club to compete in the Cornwell Cup contests commencing in Auckland on January 20 is:—S. Bell and L. Parkes. Mr. V. Harrison has boon appointed Whangarei delegate and' will accompany the team, which will travel to Auckland by the steamer Claymore next Wednesday. -
