Telegraphing from Wellington last evening. " Abaydos " stated that the weather •was dull- and if rain fell the track would beconie a trifle greasy. NEW PLYMOUTH HORSES CANDIDATES ' FOR TRENTHAM. [froji our own correspondent] ■ NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday The New Plymouth track has been quiet since the Christmas arid' New Year meetings. However, with hotsea engaged at Trontham and tlio, approach of tha Egmont and Taranaki autumn meetings, things should be brightening up [.gain before-long R.. Barlow, is; taking Refresher and Silk Sox 'to Trentham. Both were winners on tho sefccmd day Of the Stratford meeting. Although Refresher did not beat anything of note on' that 'occasion, ho carried • his nine stone home like a tradesman, and with 7.10 in the Telegraph Handicap ho must have a chance.

Silk Sox lias-finished -on well at the end of his recent races and. the long straight at Trentham is expected to be in his favour. Ho has improved a lot of late and continues to. get. through his tasks-in ..a pleasing fashion. • * ■ •

H. Dulieu intends to make the trip to Trentham with Dfcsert Star and Prince Colossus. • Both - have thrived 'wonderfully since they have been in New Plymouth and are getting through their work in good style. Tigerism is back in active, work again. He is looking bigger than ever before and worked freely over a couple of circuits this morning. His leg, .which was blistered some time ago, appears quite all right and Barlow is very hopeful that ho will survive a preparation.

Adept lias improved as a result of her holiday racing. Sho is a nice-dispositioned mare and is getting through the' tasks that R. Johnson is allotting her in pleasing style. Although the daughter of Chief Ruler and Adroit is now seven years old, she had never raced before Boxing Day. Sho ran a creditable race on the second day at Sfratford and should not be hard to place in future.

t .Lalla, Quex- was responsible for her two best 'efforts sin-ie coming up this way when she Was placed fourth both days at Stratford. Sho pulled hard over two rounds on the plough this morning and looks in great order.
