DOCTOR'S DILEMMA

At the Mental Hygiene Conference in London a few weeks ago, Lord Horder, the eminent physician, told the following story:— "I was recently rung up at two o'clock on a Sunday morning. When sufficiently awake to know where T was, I found myself speaking to the police-sergeant of Harrow Road Police Station. He had a man charged with driving a lorry in Harrow Road while under the influence. The man wanted to see me.

" When charged the man had taken a bit of newspaper out of his pocket and said, ' This is the doctor I want to examine me.' I asked the police-ser-geant what the newspaper said. He read out that ' Lord Horder says he knows of no experiment scientifically conducted which proves that the consumption of alcohol in moderation is injurious to health.' "
