ROMANCES OF THE AIR

LOVE AT A FLYING SCHOOL MATCH-MAKING RECORD Three amazing match-making months in which dozens of engagements and marriages have been announced. This is the honeymooning record of the Airworks Flying School at Heston, 15 miles from London. For these three months, the Sunday Chronicle recently stated, Cupid has been playing havoc among them—and still is!

" Even more promising romances are in the offing," said an official of the school. "We are watching their ■progress with interest. In addition to the engagements and marriages among actual members, many love matches of outside people have begun or budded at Heston, making about 30 in all."

Two of October's important society weddings had their .origin at the flying school. Countess Resy de Baillet Latour, who learned to fly at Heston last summer, first attracted the attention of her husband, Mr. Harold Pcake, while having her lessons there. Mr. Peake is a pilot and private aeroplane owner. They became engaged, and married shortly afterwards. The second society pair were Lord Willoughby de Broke and Miss Rachel Wroy. They became engaged in ' the course of a flying tour of Germany, organised by Mr. W. Lindsay Everard, M.P., which started from the romantic airport. Lord Willoughby de Broke, like Mr. Peake, is pilot and owner of an aeroplane, and his bride also has a pilot's certificate. Another romance of Heston is that of Miss Corise Rankin and Mr. Cherry, of the Auxiliary Air Forco. At their second meeting these two arranged to fly together at Heston, and are now engaged. They intend to have a flying honeymoon after 'their marriage.. One of the central figures in this school of romance is Mr. .Jackaman — pilot of the white monospar honeymoon aeroplane—who has probably piloted more honeymoon couples than any other man. He piloted Prince Henry's Equerry, Captain Bfpoke, from Heston on his honeymoon. Prince Henry himself took pictures of the departure and escorted the machine to the coast. Mr. Jackaman declines to speak about his passengers—that is why he is so popular as a honeymoon pilot. Miss Kathleen Horlick, the society beauty, took flying instruction at the Airworks School. Now she is married to Mr. Kenneth Wagg. She also left for her honeymoon in Mr. Jackaman's aeroplane.
