SECOND SERIES COMMENCED FIRST CENTURY OF SEASON HONOUR FOR N. GOLDSWORTHY Conditions were ideal at the Domain on Saturday, when tho Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association commencod the second scries of matches in its senior grade competition. The wickets woro in good order, and the outfield faster than usual. Tho first century of tho season was scored by N. G. Goldsworthy, who made 117 for lI.V. against Mount Roskill. He reached his hundred with a big hit for six. R.V. appears to have a good chance of gaining full championship points from Mount Roskill. R. C. Aickin, one of the most promising colts in the competition, played a splendid innings for Mount Albert Grammar Old Hoys against Ponsonby. Mount Albert scored 152, of which Aickin knocked up H 6. Ponsonby started well, scoring 50 for the loss of one wicket. Green Lane was dismissed for 164 against Harbour Board, which showed good form in scoring 63 for the loss of ono wicket. The cricket was not ko bright as usual, bowlers having a decided advantage on wiokets which should have produced larger scores. A feature of the day's cricket -was the splendid wicketkeeping of F;. Fverson, Ponsonby, who dismissed five Mount Albert! batsmen. MOUNT ALBERT DISAPPOINTS ATCRIN THE STAR BATSMAN With the exception of Aickin, who made 80. Mount Albert disappointed against Ponsonby. The colts showed promise in their first match, and were expected to extend moro seasoned teams. Most of the batsmen on Saturday were troubled with Broberg's spin bowling. The Ponsonby captain subdued the batsmen after Aickin was dismissed. His six wickets for 35 was a good performance.

The honours of the' game, however, went to Aickin, who knocked up 86 in 78 minutes. Ho played attractive cricket, scoring most with forceful drives past mid-on. His defence was particularly sound. Aickin hit ten fours. Cantlay, 23, played a useful innings. Evcrson gave a clean display behind the wickets. Ho caught two and stumped three. The spin bowlers, Broberg and Kobertshaw, benefited by Everscn's smart work. 10. Masters and Lewis opened Ponsonby's first innings. GOOD SECOND WICKET STAND A good second wicket stand by Goldsworthy, 11", and Metgc, 70, was a feature of ll.V.'s first innings against Mount Roskill. Golds worthy played a particularly fine innings, although he should have been caught by Longville at 60. Ho punished any loose balls, being effective on the off side. His score included 14 fours and two sixes. Metgo, a left-hander, played a steadier innings, scoring mostly with nicclv-placed shots on the leg side. H. Hunt did well t-o score 41 not out.
