ELLERSLIE TRAINING

LORD VAL AND KILTOWYN SIX FURLONGS IN 1.15 3-5 \ GAY MARIGOLD SPRINTS WELL BY ARCHER Lord Val and Kiltowyn look the galloping honours at Ellerslio yesterday, when they finished ahead of United at the end of a solidly-run six furlongs in 1.15 3-5. Gay Marigold also pleased by accounting for Mountain Ijrceze over five furlongs in 1,2 3-5. The conditions for work were excellent, tho weather being fine and the tracks fast, and all tho galloping was accomplished oij the No. 2 grass. On tho grass Versant (Holland) and Courthaven (Parsons) encompassed a round in 1.49 3-5, the last Bin furlongs in 1.23. They wont very satisfactorily and both aro showing improved condition, although Courthavcn has been inclined to show Bigns of soreness. Gay Broney (McTavish) and Mahkill (Jenkins), running tho first three in 38 4-os, completed six furlongs in 1.13 3-5. They wero togother throughout and were running on solidly at the end. Gay Broney is improving with every gallop and should Boon show somo form. Glenromney (Fuller) got a break of several lengths on Prince Colossus (Wiggins) and Magic Mint (Craddock), but Prince Colossus was with him at tho end of six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, with Magic Mint beaten oft. Glenromney went fast over tho first three furlongs in 37 2-5s and was not urged in tho straight, where Princo Colossus was ridden out to overtake him. Gay Marigold (Parsons) was just in front of Mountain Breeze (McTavish) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.2 3-5. Tho first two furlongs were run in 21 l-5s and Gay Marigold stayed on too solidly for the lessseasoned Mountain Breeze, who is shaping well for a novice. Useful Six by Morehu Psychologist (Parsons), after running the first three in 15 l-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.23 3-5, tho last three in 38 2-ss. He seems to bo thoroughly recovered from the lameness that troubled him early last month and is now hitting out freely. Psychologist will need a good deal moro work to bring him to concejt pitch, but he is doing well and should be improved this season. Supreme Ruler (E. M.anson) and Chief Emerald (L. Dulieu) sprinted five furlongs from a standing start in 1.5 1-5. They ran tho last half-mile in 50 3-5s and Supreme Ruler had a slight advantage at the finish. Up to the present Supremo Ruler has been disappointing, but he has freshened up lately and has been sprinting nicely for u novice. King Musk (Wiggins) strode over seven furlongs in 1.41 1-5, going comfortably all the way. Tho three-year-old lias muscled up a lot lately and his track form indicates that he is likely to give a good account of himself in the novice class at Avondale. Morehu (Clarke) ran her first three in 37 2-5s and finished six furlongs in 1.17. She was running on fairly solidly at the end and seems to bo steadily improving.

Lord Yal (Wiggins) and Kilto\yyn (Goldfinch) were several lengths in advaoce of United (Parsons) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.15 3-5. United led over tho first two furlongs in 25s and was in front until about a furlong from the post, when he was overtaken by Lord yal and Kiltowyn, who were wide nut round the turn. Lord Val and Kiltowyn both worked solidly and there was little between them at tho finish. Catoma and King March Chief Clerk (Wiggins) and Chief Cook (Tremain) were not bustled to run six furlongs in 1.22. They aro steadily acquiring good racing condition. Lady Diana (McTavish) and Baroscope (E. Manson) worked over a round, running the last eix furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Lady Diana is working smoothly and should have prospects later when she is moro seasoned. Baroscope'was backward when first taken in hand and will bo fi little time yet in reaching solid condition. On tho tan Catoma (L. Dulieu) and King March (Parsons) encompassed a round in 1.55 3-5, the last six furlongs in 1.25 3-5. Both worked solidly and imlled up well. King March is a picture of fitness and Catoma is also in great heart. On tho two-year-old track Sporting Song (Jenkins) and Red Flamo (E. Manson) ran an easy two furlongs in 28 4-sa. Sporting Song is the moat forward of the local youngsters, but liaa lately been showing signs of soreness. Kainiri (Preston) was schooled over the steeplechase fences on tho flat and gave a very satisfactory display. He is carrying more condition thnn when ho raced in July. Neil (Baker) and Zane Grey (H. Dulieu) were sent over a round of the steeplechase fences, Patutahi (Burgess) accompanying them over tho fences on the flat each time*. Neil and Zane Grey both jumped well, especially Neil, -who infused plenty of dash into his work. Patutahi also made a good showing and is evidently going to jump country well. Ho may have liia first raco as a steeplechaser at Paeroa,

I TRIALS AT TE AWAMUTU D'ARTAGNAN AND TENAKOE [FROM OUR 'OWN correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Thursday Track conditions 'were ideal for fast work at Te Awamutu this morning. On the rails, Musquil (Baker) and Loombination (McKenzie) ran six furlongs in 1.21, tho last half in 52 3-ss, with Musquil going the better. Superior Guard (McKenzie) wns not asked for speed, but carried himself well at strong pace-work. King's Knave (Cameron) went away from the milo barrier, and, after runnins the first half-mile in 52 2-ss, completed his task in 1.46 1-5. Tray Bit (Cameron) ran three furlongs without recording much in tho way of time. After a delay owing to Tenakoe (Stokes) playing up, lie and D'Artagnnn (Kennedy) broke away from the four furlongs post to run homo in 50 2-ss. Tenakoe was going very easily alongsido his companion at tho finish. Outside tho flags, Jonathan (McKenzie) was moving very nicely, better than Mnrechal (Baker), at the conclusion of half-a-mile in 52 3-ss. Te Tauft (McGrath) worked lazily over three furlongs in 41b. Lucidus (Aukett), having his first sprint for some time, wob under n, strong pull in running two furlongs in 255. Although she wns not timed Kopurere (Cameron) appeared to bo going fast for the first two of three furlongs, but she was stopping at tho finish.
