BRITAIN AND JAPAN
NO TRADE BOYCOTT HOPEFUL VIEW TAKEN LONDON. Sept. 7 Britain has definitely assured Japan that the Empire does not propose to institute a trade boycott against her. These assurances have satisfied the Japanese, who are approaching the trade negotiations in a very friendly planner. The Japanese Government, however, is embarrassed by the increasing number of anti-British outbursts on the part <ft .Japanese private firms, designed to stampede the British Empire into an agreement giving the Japanese substantial markets in territories hitherto almost exclusively Britain's.
These firms, it is said, inspire provocative' messages to British Empire newspapers, anil are particularly anxious to alarm Australian woolgrowers, but Britain regards the negotiations hopefully, in view of the Japanese Government's friendly attitude.
