CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL (Received September 13. 7.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Sept, 13 The semi-final rounds (36 holes) of the professional and amateur golf championships were played to-day on the Royal Melbourne \links. Results were: —Amateurs: W. L. Hope (Victoria) defeated Jim Ferrier (New South Wales), five up and three: A. W. Jackson (Victoria) defeated H. L. Williams (Victoria), one up. Professionals. —A. Spence (Victoria) defeated C. Gray (New South Wales), four and three; V. S. Richardson (New South Wales) defeated M. L. Kelly (open champion, New South Wales), five up and four.

SUCCESSFUL TOUR VALUE OF CONTESTS (Received September 13, 10.a p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 13 Mrs. Guy Williams, manageress of the New Zealand women's golf tour, in an interview to-day, said the team had had a wonderful and most successful time in Melbourne and Sydney and would -leave behind many warm friends whose hospitality had been overwhelming. The team was proud to take away the Tasman Cup. They felt that these contests were most beneficial and would be an incentive to the younger generation to improve their play and aim> to represent their country in the .sister Dominion. " We were privileged to see some of the best golf in tho Southern' Hemisphere," said Mrs. Williams. "We shall never forget it. I must admit we have nothing to equal the championship courses in 4his country."
