ESCAPED PRISONERS

MEN STILL AT LIBERTY GAOL CLOTHES discarded DISCOVERY AT PARNELL The two convicts''who escaped from the bakehouse at Mount Eden prison on Monday, Harris O'Neill, aged 40 and George Eden Charles Hay ward aged 25, were still at large at an early' hour this morning. It is consideredlikely, however, that the fugitives v]\\ be recaptured before long, as they : have been traced to the Parnell dis. trict, where their prison clothing worn at the time of their escape was found discarded yesterday morning. , ; i i The clothing was found secreted among some scrub on a vacant section near Awatea Road, off St. Stephen's Avenue, Parnell, by a woman residing in the locality. She immediately r<u •ported her discovery to the Parnell police, who took possession of tha clothing, which was subsequently identified by an official of Mount Eden prison as being the garments worn by the escaped prisoners. That the men were still in the di*. trict yesterday afternoon was indicated by the fact that three yachts berthed at Judge's Bay were found to hava been ransacked. Clothes belonging to yachtsmen are missing from the boats.

The railway lines and roads leading from the city are being vigilantly watched by the police, who are also keeping the wharves and waterfront under observation.
