PROTECTION SOCIETY
The Rev. P. S. Smallfield presided over a well-attended meeting of the board of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children yesterday. The reports showed that 55 new cases had been dealt with, besides cases already in hand, involving 410 office interviews and 108 visits to homes, institutions, etc. Cases were also reported from as far away as Dargaville, Bay of Plenty and the Wellington district. The board is asking the Minister of Employment to provide extra relief for fathers of illegitimate children, the pay'for such work to be allocated for the support of the children. Representation is being made to Parliament for an amendment of the Marriage Act with regard to marriage age, whfeh at present is 12 for females and 14 for males.
