BIRKENHEAD WOMEN
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Birkenhead Women's Association, held in the Parish Hall .yesterday afternoon, was largely attended. The president, Mrs. A. E. Wood, who presided, stated that a good collection of foodstuffs had been made by the Girl Guides, and had been redistributed to necessitous families. A collection taken up at the meeting for the support of the Birkenhead queen in the dental clinic carnival amounted to £2 2s. It was agreed to organise the afternoon tea at the Birkenhead School fair in aid of the local queen. Several members volunteered to help and to send contributions toward the refreshments. A good response was made at the stall promoted for the purpose of gathering funds for the relief of local distress. Encouraging replies were received from the lit. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., regarding early action in establishing the promised obstetric hospital at Dunedin. The delegate, Mrs. E. B. Gil Allan, reported on, tlio business before the National Council of Women. Mrs. Helen Griffiths, of Auckland, addressed members on public speaking and the art of entertaining.
