SHOPKEEPERS ROBBED
THIEVES' DARING METHODS WALKED jOLWAY WITH GOODS CLOTHING AND JEWELLERY [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] ASHBURTON, Wednesday Two men who visited Ashburton spent a good deal of time stealing goods from shops and their daripg methods enabled them to walk out of a number of business premises carrying articles valued at nearly £IOO. The thefts took place during the busiest hours of the busiest day of the week. None of the shopkeepers who bad been robbed knew about their losses until the police asked them to identify articles recovered.
At an outfitter's shop the men took over £ls worth of goods. One engaged the attention of the man behind the counter while the other tried ojti overcoats and suits and looked at ties and scarves. When they left they carried an overcoat, a, suit, a number of tics and a shirt. At another shop they went away with several pairs of trousers, two suits, an overcoat and several scarves and some cutlery. Elsewhere they took watches and inexpensive jewellery.
