BOXING
- I BILLY PETRIE IMPRESSES Aucklanders who have eeen Billy Petrie. the Canadian light-weight, in action at the fire station gymnasium have been greatly impressed with his olever boxing and the power of his punching, and the general opinion is that the Auckland Boxing Association has made an excellent investment in bringing him to New Zealand. Petrie has had the benefit of a fortnight's stay in Auckland before his first fight and when he steps into the ring at tne Town Hall next Monday night to meet Archie Hughes, who will be the first to uphold New Zealand boxing traditions against the visitor, he should be as fit as training can make him.
Since his arrival in New Zealand Hughes has fought and defeated all the Dominion lightweights and also imported boxers, and his popularity throughout the country as a clever boxer is undisputed. He does not intend to allow the Canadian to get the better of him, while Petrie is equally determined to make good in his first New Zealand fight. Future matches hang on the result and "it should be a great contest. A first-class amateur programme' will precede the' main attraction.
