MOTORISTS' INTERESTS

HAMILTON * BRANCH AFFAIRS ELECTION OF OFFICERS v [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting last evening of the Hamilton branch of the Automobile Association. The annual report and balance-sheet, which have been previously published, were adopted.

The activities of the association during the year were outlined by the president, Mr. A. Grayson. In the coming year, he said, an attempt would be made to have the taxation derived from motorists devoted to motorists' use. The question of trying to persuade the Minister of Justice to change the charge of conversion of cars to theft of cars, with a heavier penalty, and the question of revising third party accident insurance, would also be urged. Mr. G. W. Hutchison, secretary of the association, outlined the new policy of decentralisation of the territory into local areas, with area patrols and area headquarters. The election of officers of the Hamilton advisory committee resulted as followg:—President, Mr. E. A. Thomas; committee, Messrs. E. R. Roskruge, E. M. Masters, G. Evitt, E. 11. Erson, F. Best and, W. Y. Kirkman. THE FRANKLIN AGENCY SATISFACTORY YEAR'S WORK A satisfactory year's work is recorded in the report of the "Franklin agency of the Automobile Association, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the agency in October. The report states that the new members enrolled offset the deletions caused through deaths, resignations and transfers. During the year there was a steady demand for maps, guides and touring itineraries. The appointment of a local patrol had resulted in greater service being provided for motorists. A large number of new signs had been erected and old ones renovated.

-Headlight tests were again conducted throughout the agency, but remarkably few members availed themselves of the service.
