FURTHER GAINS RECORDED
Buying pressure was maintained on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday 'and there was a further'improvement'ill banks nnd gonoral investincut*. A heavy turnover included many sales which registered sharp rises. State loans were steady, with support a shade firmer for the longer term I per cents. Australian hanks continued to gain ground, but the. New Zealand issues were unchanged. Commercials were quoted 3d higher at 16s Bd, and a firming'in offers accompanied sales at 16s 5d and 16s 6d, a full rise of 3d. Offers for English, Scottish and Australians rose ]s to £5 1 On, and a parcel was placed -Is Ud higher*at £•> lis Gd. New South Wales changed hands 2s 6d higher at £32 10s, whilo New Zealands and Nationals of New Zealand both sold at current rates, -19s 2d and AM 2s 6d respectively. The insurance group was marked by a substantial gain in Nationals, which sold Is 3d higher at ■lßs 3d.
The leading pastoral and industrial issues shared fully in the upward trend. Loan and Mercantiles were placed at £55, a rise of £7 10s. Auckland Gas was' sought 4d higher at 23s 6d; and sales took place at 23s 6d and 23s 7d, a similar rise. Support was a shade easier, for New Zealand Breweries, which dropped 3d on at 38s 4d and 38s 3d. British Tobacco gained 2s on sale at 365, and Byerofts also were dono 2s higher at 395. On sale at £SB ]ss and £SB 17s 6d, Colonial Sugars showed a rise of ss. The Waihi mining issues steadied at the lower levels recently established.
