NEW FIRE ENGINE
TESTS AT TAURANGA EQUIPMENT FOR PUMPING [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAXJRANGA, Wednesday The new fire engine for Tauranga, with a pump attached, has arrived from Auckland and last evening the brigade held the first practice with the new equipment. Two tests were made with the municipal water supply in Durham Street and Devonport Road. Later the new four-inch suction hose was let into the sea near the Railway Wharf and threw water to a great height. One branch, with a one-inch nozzle, gave a pressure of 110 lbs.
The pump has a capacity of 300 gallons a minute and should place the brigade ii]f an advantageous position for dealing with fir® outbreaks in the business area.
