DOMINION PRODUCE

IMPORTS TO BRITAIN RESTRICTION NEGOTIATIONS LONDON. Sept. 7 In the event of Australia and New Zealand being willing to undertake further temporary voluntary restrictions of dairy produce exports, Britain will bo prepared simultaneously to enforce additional" restrictions on the importation of such products from foreign countries. It has been suggested to Australia and New Zealand that if they agree not to increase their condensed milk exports beyond last year's figures, and if Australia, New Zealand and Canada reduce their cheese exports by 10 per cent, Britain will cut such imports from foreign countries by 20 per cent.

Britain also asks that Australia shall not increase her egg exports, and suggests adjustments of the apple marketing ' periods to present marketing clashes. It is gathered that although tho possibility of extending the voluntary meat quotas was comprehensively discussed, definite suggestions by Britain regarding meat await the publication of the Fat Stock Commission's report at tho end of October

The controversial butter problem takes a new turn, because in the event of the Dominions co-operating in the restrictions suggested, Britain will be willing to waive her desire that tho Dominions should restrict their butter exports. It is believed that the negotiations with the Dominions have been transferred almost entirely into the hands of the Minister of Agriculture, Major W. E. Elliot, whose successful home agricultural schemes have made him one of the outstanding men in politics today.
