VETERAN WOMAN GOLFER

No women's golf tournament is complete without Mrs. Brinton, the veteran woman golfer of South Africa. She is the most outstanding, popular personality at every women's meeting, states a Capetown writer. At the age of 63 she is still one of the most virile players 011 any course, and this year the South African women's tournament at Capetown was honoured once more by her presence. Mrs. Brinton first started playing golf in England 41 years ago, when she was only 22. Her rise to the front rank of women golfers was almost meteoric. AVithin a few months her handicap was down to 10, and by the end of the season she had joined the select circle of scratch yjlavers. A great future was predicted for her by all the critics and she was considered one of the finest woman putters in England. Although she played some very great games, attended by close, exciting finishes, it was not until 1900 that sho won. her first championship and carried off the Midland Counties title at Birmingham. . In 1902 she went to South Africa, and five years later, at Port Elizabeth, she became the South African woman champion.
