WHANGAREI
The Parochial Hall, Whangarei, was transformed into a delightful tropical garden, the occasion being a civic banquet, held under the auspices of the Whangarei Debating Society. The function proved one of the most successful held in Whangarei. The table decorations consisted of Iceland poppies and primulas, the stage was embowered in daffodils, palms and peach blossom, while the sides of the hall were bedecked with palms, fernery and cherry blossoms, the whole forming. a most delightful scene. Madame A. T. Brainsley was in charge of the table and general decorations. The hall was taxed to its capacity, upwards of 160 members attending the banquet. Mr. L. T. Pickmere presided in the capacity of the Lord Mayor of Madelaide, and the guests of honour were the Prime Minister (Mr A. J. Sligo) and Minister of Leisure (Mr. D. Smedley), of Utopia. The toasts were.. interspersed with musical an:l elocutionary items, contributed by Madame A. T. Brainsley, Mrs. A. L. Dobson, Mrs. N. E. Crimp, Mrs. G Woolley, Mrs. A. D. Jack, Mr. T. Ramsbottom, Mr. H. Carruth, Mr. A. P. Morgan, and Mr. A. L, Tresidder, the accompanists being Mrs. Rolfe-Smith and Mrs. A. P. Morgan. „ Among those present Were: —Mrs. O. Bissett, Mrs. W. Thomson. Mrs. Brown, Mrs. A. R. Crane. Mrs. W. Jones. Mrs. Wolff, Mrs. W. Delamore, Mrs. H. T. Steele, Mrs. A. L. Tresidder, Mrs. J. F. Briggs, Mrs. Glanville, Mrs. D. A. Bird, Mrs. H. C. Rishworth, Mrs. T.
