LADIES' HOCKEY
DOMINION TOURNAMENT AUCKLAND LOSES HEAVILY [by TELEGRArH —FRESS ASSOCIATION*] DANNEVIRKE. Friday The annual tournament of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association was continued to-day in warm weather. The results were: — Section A. —Akitio, 9, beat Ruahinc B, 0; Southland, 2, beat Wairarapa B, 1; Canterbury. 5, beat Auckland, 1. Section B.—Feilding, 2, beat Ashburton, 1; lluahine A, 4, beat Wellington, 1; Otago, 7, beat Wanganui, 0. Section C. —Bush, 3, beat Wairarapa A, 2; Marlborough, 1, drew with Eastern, 1; Manawatu, 2, beat Taranaki, 1. As a result of to-rlay's series, the following teams still remain unbeaten: —Canterbury, Southland, Otago, Bush. The surprise of the day was the EasternMarlborough match, which resulted in a draw. Eastern were expected to win. Another surprise was the defeat of Wellington by Kuahine, who scored an easy victory over the hitherto undefeated Southerners.
Canterbury had an easy victory over Auckland. The winners played hardhitting hockey, the half-time score being two to one. The Auckland fullbacks were slow in clearing, and the very fast Canterbury inner forwards were responsible for the side's success. The Auckland wingers, Mrs. Carnac and Miss E. Simons, battled hard throughout, but the Canterbury backs were sure. Miss E. Gubb scored for Auckland.
The draw for to-day is as follows: Section A. —Wairarapa B v. Auckland; Akitio v. Southland; Canterbury v. Ruahine B. Section B: Wellington B v. Ashburton; Otago v. Ruahino A; Feilding v. Wanganui. Section C: Eastern v. Bush; Wairarapa A v. Manawatu; Taranaki v. Marlborough.
