CAMPS FOR WOMEN

SITE AT OKETE A COMMITTEE'S INQUIRIES [fbom octk own correspondent] HAMILTON. Thursday Following a proposal to dispose of Camp Fergusson, a meeting of representative women social workers was held recently and a sub-committee was appointed to inquire into the possibilities concerning rest homes and camps for women and families in the district. In a report to be submitted to a meeting on Saturday the sub-commit-tee stated that Mr. D. V. Bryant, honorary manager for the Bryant House Trustees, had offered to any women's organisation the use of Bryant Home for six months of the year as a rest home for women, subject to certain conditions. The Waikato Children's Camp League had in its constitution provision for helping needy mothers, and intended to provide accommodation as soon as funds allowed. The sub-com-mittee stated that Camp Fergusson had been available as a camp for mothers and families. The possibility of arranging accommodation at the house in Parana Park, Hamilton, had also been investigated. A long report on the history of Camp Fergusson was submitted. Two rooms in the cottage on the camp area were available for the use of camping parties, while the Camp Association had marquees and tents for the use of campers. The site comprised 13 acres at Okete, and the association controlling it had liquid assets valued at £287 over and above the property, which was vested in the Hamilton Borough Council.
