OUTPUT OF BUTTER

CONDITIONS IN AUSTRALIA A DECLINE EXPECTED Reviewing conditions for butter production in Australia, the summary of the National Bank of Australasia, Limited, for July states: "The dry conditions during autumn and early winter are being reflected in the pronounced decline in butter production this winter, as compared with last year. The weekly gradings of butter throughout the Commonwealth are nearly 1000 tons below the total for the corresponding weeks of 1932, and for the week ended July 29 of this year amounted to only 325 tons. The grading figures have now probably reached the minimum total for the year, and it is anticipated that during August a gradual increase will be shown in export surpluses, and that, from the beginning of September, quantities for shipment will very rapidlv increase in all States. "From present indications there appears to be no prospect of butter exports this season reaching the record figure of last season, as the dry autumn in the three eastern States resulted in a serious shortage of winter pastures in many dairying districts, and cows in many parts of these Slates aro in \ei\ poor condition. Further, a number of i'armers have abandoned dairying, owing to the low level of butter-fat prices and the adverse conditions during the past autumn necessitating feeding under unpayable conditions.
