PRISONERS SENTENCED

ONE GIVEN PROBATION [fp.om our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed on Alexander JJobert James Peterson, aged 25 years, a farmer, of Waitanguru, Te Kuiti, by Mr. Justice Smith in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day in connection with a charge of carnal knowledge. His Honor said ho agreed with the recommendation of mercy made by tho jury. A verdict of guilty was returned today in the case of Philip Gordon Shepherd, aged 18, farm hand, Port Albert, who. was charged with attempted carnal knowledge. Accused was admitted to probation for two years on special conditions. His Honor, in reply to Mr. Strang, said if required ho would reserve questions raised for consideration of tho Court of Appeal. \
