/HE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE DOWNWARD VARIATIONS j ' , 'Except in Government loans, downward movements predominated in an extensive range of business on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. The market for State loans was steady, three issues changing hands at late levels. Holders cased a shado in several leading banks, while others were steady. Commercials of Australia were released twice 3d lower at l(is, with more available at that price. Nationals of New Zealand shaded Is in trading at £4. There was no''movement in tho ordinary issue of Bank of New Zealands, but the D preference issue was obtained for 325, a reduction of 3d. A selling quotation Is lower for Unions at £9 3s attracted an offer of £9 Is, which was later lifted to £9 Is 6d. Thqre was practicallv no change in insurance levels, but fewer buyers wcro offering. To ' meet an advance of 3d in offers for South British at 70s, holders reduced their limits a similar amount to 70s 3d without placing any scrip. Goldsbrough-Morts were available cheaper at the early call and were Inter placed 3d easier at 27s 6d, which " remained on offer for more. Auckland / Gas were secured a penny cheaper at 23s 3d. Benown Coals were unaltered. Interest in shipping was we'll maintained, and P. and O. deferred stock was lifted 4d on sale at 22s 9d. Breweries were held more firmly, Inquiry covered tho usual range in miscellaneous investments. Front line goldntining shares also met with slightly easier support, but holders of Alexanders and Blackwaters were firm. Waihis' were active, four parcels being released at 2-ls 9d, a fall of 3d. Waihi Junctions were secured three times a penny lower at Ss lOd, but hardened under trading to 3s lid, which remained available, after two transactions at that level.
