FLOODS IN CHINA

TRAIN FALLS INTO RIVER MILITARY CADETS INJURED (Received August 22, 5.45 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Aug. 22 Nearly 200 military cadets were injured, some of them fatally, when a special train carrying 500 fell into the river near Nanchang, as the result of the collapse of a bridge after heavy rains and floods. Although the flood conditions in the Yellow River basin are gradually showing improvement, they are still serious. Already there has been considerable loss of life. The hugo dyke walls are proving sufficiently strong to withstand the torrents which have risen to within a few inches of last year's record.
