PROPOSED SWIMMING BATHS QUESTION OF RAISING FUNDS Steps to provide swimming _ baths at Papatoetoe were further considered by the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce at its last meeting, -when a letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs in reply to a request for a share of the proceeds of art unions. The Minister stated that while it was not the practice of the department to allocate grants for such purposes, he would be prepared to consider the application on receipt of information regarding the amount of money it was anticipated to raise locally. Mr. H. C." Ernest said it was incorrect to call upon the Papatoetoe township to bear the cost of raising funds. Tho baths would be mainly used by schoolchildren, who were drawn from the Manukau County and Papatoetoe. It*was decided to call a conference of the Manukau County Council, the Papatoetoe Town Board and the school committee to discuss ways and means of raising funds. Messrs. H. M. Didsbury, W. J. Nicholson and H. H. D. Wily were appointed delegates to the half-yearly conference of the Franklin Combined Chambers of Commerce. It was decided to request the Bnnk of New Zealand to establish a receiving office at Papatoetoe.
