LADIES' HOCKEY

SENIOR GRADE CONTESTS Fine weather and good field conditions permitted the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association to proceed with its senior grade competition on Saturday, when two matches were decided. Kiwi defeated Ngaro in the first contest, while Wesley accounted for Technical in the other game. . Of the two games the Kiwi-ISgaro match was the more evenly contested. Ngaro, as usual, was very aggressive throughout, but poor circle work lost many good opportunities. Slowness in netting possession and bunching were the chief faults. Miss Scouller was always prominent for Ngaro, and shot two fine goals. The Ngaro back division was good, fine work being performed by the goalkeeper. The Kiwi side did tiot play its usual dashing gam© and appeared to be still handicapped by the absence' of its centre-forward, Miss Waters. There was too much individual effort and hard hitting predominated. In characteristic style, Miss Grace did all that was asked of her in goal, while Miss Isaacs kept up with the play and repulsed many dangerous attacks. Misses Bishop, Jones and Graham were the best of the remaining players ' Wesley was handicapped by ■ having to take the field short. Nevertheless, it had matters, much its own way for the greater part. Technical could not conir bine properly, and although _ it had Wesley defending hard at times, its efforts were purely individual. Wesley finished with a comfortable margin of five goals. Misses Jeffrey and Potter were Technical's most prominent players, while Miss Reader did good work for Wesley. Mrs. Wylie was also in good form in goal for Wesley, receiving»fine support from the Misses White.
