ALPINE MOTORISTS
PROGRESS OF THE TRIAL BRITISH PERFORMANCES (Received August 4, 6.15 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Aug. 3 Four of the seven competitors who have lost no marks so far in the international Alpine motor trial are British, entrants, namely, two Rileys, one 31. G., one Frazer-Nash. A Riley is leading. It is of the nine horse-power class and the 31. G. Magna is of the 12 horse-power class. Of 321 starters, 101 cars remain in the trial. The leading position for the women's prize at present is held by Miss Champney, driving a Riley. The only other woman competitor whose chances are considered to be good is Mrs. Gough, in a Singer. To-day's test on the road from Turin to Grenoble includes the passage over Galadier, which is considered the most difficult of tho mountain passes in the whole trial.
