EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD The following are extracts from the New Zealand Herald of August 6, 1883: The sixth of the course of Saturday popular concerts, under the patronaga of the Mayor and the council, took place on v Saturday evening. It was given, as stated by the advertised proclamation, by "that worthy citizen of ye most antient city of Auckland, yclept Pooley" (oyez), and devoted to old English music. Notwithstanding counter attractions at the Opera House and the Poultry Show, the atteudance was as good as ever. A cablegram from Vienna states that a serious anti-Jewish agitation occurred at Presburg, in consequence of the release of the Jews who were charged with the murder of a girl. A large mop collected and commenced to pillage the Jewish quarter of the town, and the authorities were compelled to call out the military to disperse the rioters. , The examinations of candidates to be enrolled as solicitors and barristers or the Supreme Court will commence today in the old Maori chapel next to to Crown lands office. There are 19 canaidates. . A telegram from Christchurch: states that 58 applications for diamond pro - pecting licences at Alford Forest have been lodged. Six joint-stock companies have been formed and great excitemen prevail#. ■ . ; .
