"ACADEMIC FREEDOM"
Sir, —"A Graduato" alleges that Victoria' College is producing atheism, communism and disloyalty. He says it is scandalous to tax "loyal" people to support such an institution, and that the Government would bo justified in closing it down. All this amounts, to a misrepresentation of fact. Victoria Coliego produces plenty of other ideas, and "A Graduate" studiously abstains from mentioning them. Presumably ho is not a communist or an atheist. If he wero, he would bo writing to tell you that it was scandalous for the Government to be taxing atheists to support an institution that ran a large Christian union, or that members of the V.C. Debating Society openly advocated the causo of vested interests. "A Graduate" has no complaints that other men arc taxed to pay for tho propagation of his ideals, but ho squeals when tho same principle operates against him. In other words, he is not a sportsman.
