DAIRY EXPANSION

RECORD YIELD IN PROVINCE INCREASE OF 23 PER CENT TOTAL CHEQUE LARGER The remarkable expansion of the dairying industry in the Auckland province during the past season is confirmed by the final production figures, which are now available. During the 12 months ended June 30 the total production was 179,778,0001b. of but-ter-fat, an advance of 23 per cent, on the previous season's total. In spite of the much lower pay-outs to farmers, the year's dairy cheque is slightly larger. The season finished very strongly. In June, 3,825,0001b. of butter-fat were produced, compared with 3,008,0001b. in the corresponding month of 1931-32, an increase of 27 per cent. Substantial increase in output in the North Auckland district is stated to be a factor in establishing the record output. It is estimated the increase in North Auckland amounted to 25 per cent. The following table shows the details of production of batter and cheese in the Auckland province, in terms of butter-fat, for the season, compared with those of the corresponding periods of the previous two seasons: — 1932-23 1931-32 1930-31 lb. lb. lb. HAURAKI PLAINS OUTPUT GREATER CHEESE PRODUCTION Dairy produce manufactured by the Hauraki Plains Co-operative Dairy Company, Lirpitod, for the year ended June 30, comprised 732 tons of cheese, 76 i tons of creamery butter and 16 tons of whey butter, an increase of 59 tons of cheese and a decrease of nine tons of creamery butter in comparison with the previous season. The directors state in their report that the supply of milk for cheese-making began to fall rather rapidly in the early autumn months, which caused a considerable curtailment in the total output at a time when price:! on the London market showed some improvement. The average grade for cheese for the whole season was 91.57 and for creamery butter, 93.18. The directors sold 850 crates of cheese at a price which, they state, has not up to the time of their report been quite equalled on the London parity. A dividend of 5 per cent is recommended on paid capital. The average payment to botfa cheese and butter suppliers for the year to date has been 9d per lb. butter-fat. The directors recommend that at the annual meeting the average payment for the season to cheese suppliers be brought up to lOd per lb. butter-fat and for butter suppliers to 9id per lb. In each case, balances will be available when final surpluses are received on butter and cheese unsold, which should bring the payments up to 10Jd and lOd per lb. respectively, inclusive of the dividend on share capital. MOA COMPANY'S YEAR A RECORD ESTABLISHED A record for production was established by the Moa Farmers' Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, Innlewood, Taranaki, during the past season. The output of cheese totalled 1397J tons, an increase of 220 tons on the previous season. The average grade was 94.41 and the average pay-out 9 l-10d per lb. butter-fat.
