OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL REUNION IN AUCKLAND A NOTABLE GATHERING The presence in Auckland of the Tariff .Commission, and the fact that throe of its four members attended tho Otago Boys' High School, made particularly notable a reunion of old boys in Auckland last evening to celebrate tho 70th anniversary of tho foundation of tho school. Tho ex-Otago members of tho commission, all of whom figured on the. toast-list, were Dr. G. Craig, the chairman, Professor B. E. Murphy, a former dux, and Mr. J. B. Gow, while tho fourth member, Mr. G. A. Pascoe, representing Christ's College, Otago'a traditional rival on the football and cricket fields, made one of the responses to tho toast of "Kindred Schools."

Dr. J. Hardio Neil presided over an attendance of 80. Various speakers referred with pride to the prominent part played by old boys in the affairs of the Dominion and in countries overseas. Proposing tho toast of 'The School, Professor Murphy described himself as a representative of the medieval period of the school. He revived memories of the outstanding pupils of his period, paying particular tribute' to Mr. - J. W. Shaw, of Auckland, a former dux, who had shone both in scholarship and sport. "What the school teaches you does not matter much, for you soon forget it," said the professor. "It is the outlook and the confidence it givwj you in life that counts." Responding, Dr. Craig said, compared with Professor Murphy, ho was a representative of the stone age period of tho school. Ho was sure all felt, as he did, that old boys owed a great debt of gratitude to "the school on the hill."

Other toasts honoured were: "Absent Old Boys," proposed by Mr. J. W. Shaw: "Kindred Schools," proposed by Mr. M. R. O'Shea, responded to by Mr. G. A. Pascoe (Christ's College) and Professor M. Walker (Auckland Grammar School); "Masters, Past and Present," proposed by Mr. J. B. Gow, responded to by Mr. C. M. Littlejohn. Musical and elocutionary items, and the singing of tho school song "Ten, Twenty, Thirty," followed by the school huka, contributed to tho success of tho evening. Tho following officers of the Auckland branch of the Old Boys' Association were elected; —President, Dr. J. Hardie Neil; vice-presidents, Sir Alexander Herdman, Mr. Kenneth-Macken-zie, Dr. P. A. Lindsay, Dr. E. P. Neale, Mr. J. W. Shaw, Mr. J. J. Kingston and Mr. W. J. P. Hodgkins; committee, Dr. Gillies Borrie, Messrs. F. S. Townlev Little, C. M. Littlejohn, M. R. O'Shea, W. H. Ackroyd, A.
