THREE CAPTIVE BRITONS EARLY FREEDOM EXPECTED CHINESE BANDITS' DEMAND FIGURE LARGELY REDUCED By Telegraph—X'ress Association— Copyright (Received August 2. 5.35 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 2 It is understood that tlic Government lias decided to pay the ransom demanded by the Chinese bandits for the release of the three British officers abducted from the steamer Nanchang at Neweluing about four months ago. A sum of £BO,OOO was demanded originally, but it is understood that £GOOO now will suffice, and the liberation of tho men is expected hourly. A British official wireless message says the British authorities at Ncwchang have been informed that contacit has been established with the bandits. Tho prisoners are reported to be well. They have been furnished with supplies by intermediaries through whom the negotiations with the bandits arc being maintained.
