WAIHI MINE ACCIDENT
INJURED MEN PROGRESSING WORK BEING FOUND FOR OTHERS [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] WAIHI, "Wednesday All the men injured in the accident at the Waihi mine last week continue to make favourable progress toward recovery. It is stated that an examination of No. 2 shaft suggests that the cage broke away upward of .'3ooft. above No. n level. If this was the case, the escape of the men from death was even more remarkable than was at first supposed, as the drop would have been fully 1:500 ft. Pending ropairs to the shaft and winding gear, which are expected to % take three or four weeks, the management of the company is taking steps to keep' the employees affected bv the accident at work. To this end an afternoon shift was started in the Grand Junction area of tho. mine, yesterday morning, and will be continued until tho men <;an return to their former 'working points.
