RAILWAY CLERK'S WOUND
NO CLUE TO MYSTERY VICTIM'S CONDITION IMPROVED [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHTKCH. Wednesday The railway clerk, Mr. Leonard Lee, who was wounded by a bullet in the jaw, is still in hospital and is in considerable pain, but his general condition is improving. The police are making investigations, but have virtually reached an impasse. The most likely avenues of inquiry have been exhausted without furnishing a clue to the identity of the assailant or the motive. It is hoped that if the bullet can be extracted it may provide information of the type and calibre of the weapon used. X-ray photographs so far taken have not assisted greatly.
