NEW PLYMOUTH HORSES A SPEEDY JUVENILE SUPERIOR'S SMART EFFORT / [from our own con respondent] NEW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday Although no local horses have any immediate engagements, nearly all are in active training and should be in good order for the spring meetings. The tracks continue fo be in good order. Amyril looks much improved as the result of her racing at Trentham and is building up into a handsome filly. She has not been galloped since her return, but will shortly be speeded up in her work. Her brilliance out erf the tapes is going to be a great asset on turning courses. Although he failed in both hi 3 starts at Trentham. Glenvane is looking and working well. This morning be ran a smart halfmile with Dingle Bay, who has been leased by Mr. A. R. Standish, a member of the committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club. Although a little leggy. Dingle Bay is a fine upstanding horse who has already •hown pace above the average. Lycky Alice has built up splendidly during her short spell, and. if appearances po for anything, she will be much improved in the comma: season. • The Colossus— Rillet filly Superior is easily tho speediest of the three rising two-year olds in training. She is a bit on the small • ide, but is flippy and knows the way to gallop. This morning, against a fairly strong wind, she beat Aussie Ra and General Ouex by ihrae lengths over three furlongs, run in 37 4-ss, a smart effort. Her dnm, who was by Acre from Rill, showed phenomenal pace on the track when in training, but did not do so well with the colours up. General Quex is a fine-looking colt, but may take time. He is inclined to be a lazy worker and does better in company. Aussie Ka is more forward. . Lalla Quex has settled down well in her new quarters and is putting on condition nicely. R. Johnson worked an improvement in her half-brother. Rideemount, and may do the same with this filly. Merry Way did not improve as much as expected during her spell and it rnay be some time before she comes to her best. season she won all but one of her races in the autumn. , , . . . „ Bold Bid continues to please his trainer He undoubtedly possesses a Sreat l turn of pace and requires very little galloping, xiis connections nad an idea of racing hurt at Knuton or Wnncanui. but this P*? n wa f Abandoned and he will make his ''f. nppearance in the Maiden Plate at the Taranaki Hunt meeting at New I lymoutll c/n September 2. v His owner has previously won this event with Orapai and Gibraltar.

Headmistress is enjoying an easy time at prcFent. but will soon be back getting ready for the spring racing. Her failure at Trentham was disappointing to her connections. but this Chief Ruler filly is good and will make amends. She is rather slow to find her feet and will probably do best over a distance of ground. Arvada is spelling on her owners farm and will not race again until the Christmas rnd New-Year meetings. Her place in 11. Johnson's stable has been taken by her halfBister by Grandcourt. This youngster is a likely-looking sort, but as yet is very green. / —_ LUNA LUX FOR RICCARTON GRAND NATIONAL ENGAGEMENT The Tlftwkc's Bay jumper Luna Lux is definitely roing to Riccarton for the Grand National S?eeplechas3 arid will be ridden (>_' A.
