A short yarding of fat cattle met with an exceptionally good demand at,the Stortford Lodge sale to-duy. Cow and heifer prices advanced by approximately 10s a head, while those for bullocks advanced in lesser degree. The quality of tho entry w«s average, with a few better-finished lines of rattle entered. The fat cattle entry totalled 100 head, this being one of tho shortest yardings of fats for some months, and this was the main reason for prices moving upward, butchers and export buyers bidding well for tho majority of the offering. Values were:—Bullocks, medium to prime. £G 12s Gd to £8 18s; others, from £4 18s: cows, medium to prime, £1 7s (id to £5; others, from £2 ss; heifers, medium to prime. £4 8b to £5 2s; others, from £2 12s. Ewe and wether values were again on the rise, a yarding of 1988 fat sheep meeting with a bright market. Ewes advanced 3s to 4g and wethers 2s to 3s. _Outside competition, particularly from Wairarapa and Wellington buyers, was keen.
