SOCCER TOUR LOSS
NEW ZEALAND TEAM AUSTRALIAN ATTITUDE (deceived July 11, 12.25 n.m.) SYDNEY, July 10 Tho recent tour of tho New Zealand Soccer team in Australia involved a loss of £550, whereas the 1923 tour showed a profit of £IOOO. Tho League clubs hero may bo asked to meet portion of the loss and tho Now Zealand Association may be asked to share ifc, as it is considered that the best team was not sent to Australia. It is proposed to send an Australian Soccer team to New Caledonia. SPECIAL AWARD MOST CONSISTENT PLAYER AUCKLANDER SELECTED [BY TET.EGJIArH —OWN COItIIKSPONDKNT] WELLINGTON, Monday The manager of tho New Zealand Association football team which recently returned from Australia, Mr. H. L. Godber, has made the special award for tho most consistent player on tho field and tho most conscientious and bestbehaved player off the field. Tho award goes to I'. Gerrard, fullback for North Shoro United, Auckland, who played in every game from May 20 to Juno 28, I.') in all, and on practically every occasion was commended by the Australian critics for his resourceful and at times brilliant play. After Zuill, tho New Zealand goalkeeper, had been injured in tho third test match, tho vacancy in tho two final games was filled by Gcrrard, whose adaptability again showed itself. _ Tho token of recognition, which was awarded to Gorrard with the unanimous approval of all tho other players in the team, was a soccer ball autographed by all tho members of the New Zealand party.
