OBITUARY

MR. JAMES WILLIAMS The death has occurred suddenly in Nelson of Mr. James Williams, registrar of the diocese of Nelson, aged 60 years. Mr. Williams was born in Canterbury, and for many years was a member of the Permanent Defence Force of New Zealand. On his retirement from the forco he was engaged in business in Ashburton, but at the outbreak of the war he rejoined the Defence Department and was on tho instructional staff at Trentham as a ser-geant-major. At the conclusion of the war Mr. Williams went to Nelson and was appointed secretary of the Nelson Co-operative Fruit Company. In October, 1919, he was selected as diocesan secretary, and was appointed registrar last year. Mr. Williams was prominent in the Masonic craft. Ho is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. MRS. J. CATCHPOLE The death took place at Auckland on Thursday of Mrs. Minnie Catchpolo at the ago "of 55 years. Her husband, Mr. Joseph Catchpole, is tho chairman of directors of Pukomiro Collieries, Limited. Mrs. Catchpole was born at Pukekohe, and was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Russell, who were among the first residents of Pukekohe, and went there about 1566. After attending the Pukekohe School, which, at tho time, adjoined her father's farm in Queen Street, Pukekohe, she was engaged in business in Auckland for some 10 or 12 years. Since her marriage in 1915 she had lived at Ponsonby. Mrs. Catchpolo is survived by her husband. There are no children.
