DEATH AT SEA
STEAMER'S CHIEF ENGINEER AID OF WIRELESS IN ILLNESS Further details of the death at sea on Sunday of Mr. George Blakelock, chief engineer of the Federal Line steamer Surrey, Mere received when the vessel berthed at Auckland yesterday on arrival from Liverpool. .Mr. Blakelock, who was 55, had been in the Surrey since she was built in 1910. Ha joined the vessel as second engineer and served for a time as chief refrigerating engineer before he was promoted chief engineer 12 years ago. He was unmarried and his home was in Sunderland. Mr. Blakelock had been in indifferent health for some time and h-? became seriously ill when the vessel reached the Pacific. The Surrey does not carry a doctor so medical advice was obtained by wireless from the liner Rotorua. which was en route from London to Wellington. Mr. Blakelock was suffering from heart trouble and he died oil Sunday afternoon. He was buried .it* sea next day, when the Surrey was about 470 miles from Auckland.
